The great outdoors
Lyon's historic centre is a UNESCO World Heritage site and its winding streets are perfect for losing yourself and admiring the architecture. In the shadows of the towering cathedral 'La Basilique Notre Dame de Fourvière' you will find the 'Musée Cinéma et Miniature' which has great film memorabilia and miniature versions of film sets. It's a great little tour for the kids. Head slightly further along the river to the large 'Parc de la Tête d'Or' which has a zoo and pedalo rental on the lake. For the views
The amazing Basiilica of the Notre-Dame de Fourvière dominates the Lyon skyline and as such offers the best views over the city from its summit. You can choose to walk up to the top... and who doesn't love a challenge? However there is also a funicular railway from the Vieux Lyon metro station which might be more suitable for people traveling with kids. However you choose to get there, it is well worth a visit and appreciate the city sprawled out in front of you.

Local Delicacies
It's a well-known fact that wondering around a new city helps you work up a big appetite and for food there is no better place to find yourself in than Lyon. It's famously the gastronomic capital of France and the residents are rightfully proud of their cuisine. You can try a typical Bouchon Lyonnais - though proceed with caution if you order the andouillete - or alternatively try legendary Les Halles de Lyon Paul Bocuse, Lyon’s famed indoor market. It's a is a must for fans of fine French cuisine. You can ogle at cheese and charcuterie galore, or indulge in a ‘shellfish and white wine brunch’ in one of the many surrounding bars and bistros. It’s particularly atmospheric on Sundays.
